Yalda Night tradition of Iran

Longest night of the year, December 21th is celebrated as Yalda Night in Iran. It is believed that the origin of this 2000 years old tradition, which influenced even the Romans, had been the birth of Sun God, Mithra. Today, this ancient tradition still continues in Iran and is celebrated with gathering around family elders, having conversations while eating, commonly, watermelons.
